I was gonna reply to tony's comment, but i figured i'd just make this an entry

Here's how i feel:

Straight Edge is a personal choice, but you publicly look like an asshole if you sell out. I don't take half assing straight edge lightly. It irritates the piss out of me, because it's one of the main things in my life. That doesn't mean it's the main thing in everyones, but when you ARE straight edge, it SHOULD be.

I know many people who have sold out, some i like, some i hate... but everyone of them had one thing in common. My Disappointment. It may not have mattered that i didn't approve. Good. But i'm not gonna lie and say it's cool. It's not, and i hope that realization hits them someday. With many of them, i know it's a matter of time before they say "Whoa... i fucked up." I can see it in their "life" now. It's a complete downward spiral. Good for them. I'm glad they chose the shitty end of the stick.

Some people think, "well, would you rather them have stayed straight edge??".... YES. Of course. C'mon, is that even a question? Sure they just weren't cut out, but i guess i always assume that people are when they take straight edge. I mean, do people really NOT THINK ABOUT IT??? I guess so. It's sad to think that people can really just all of a sudden stop giving a shit. but that happens all the time, in many aspects of life. You aren't the first to sell out, and you won't be the last. But you are one, and that will never change.

But for me, i'll be straight edge even when all you have alzheimers and don't even remember what it is.

"I can see it in their "life" now."

What the hell is that supposed to mean. Basicly what you're saying by that is that when people sell out their life isn't real and its just a joke. Give me a break.
When I think of the meaning of life, I think that the only meaning it to be happy. If you're straight edge and not happy and you're thinking/wanting to do things that aren't straight edge, do it. If it makes you happy then do it.
I know you're going to be like "Marielle what the fuck, you call me all the time complaining about stupid shit because you're drunk." Even if I was straight edge I'd still have this stupid shit going on anyways. Its true. When I go out to the bar and drink I have a fucking blast. Its awesome. As long as drinking and smoking makes me happy then I'm fine and you should be ok with that. Even straight edge kids do shitty things to make them happy. Everyone in general does shitty things that make them happy. Everything from killing animals(I don't really care but you're vegan so you might), making other people feel shitty and so on.
You just need to look at it from their point of veiw and not your own. Be a little more open minded. I'm not telling you to be a total push over and accept everyone for who they are but don't be such a dick about it.

here's how i feel and have always felt:

youre straight edge, youre derek, i love you, and i would like you any way you decided to be.

BUT society is labeling us every day putting us into all sorts of catergories, why put another label on yourself? its like, if you want to do something good, do something good because you want to and because it makes YOU feel good and not for a label of being a "martyr" or the recognition you would get from it. same goes for being sxe, if you want to feel healthy and poison free, then do it for yourself and not a label or recognition, ya know?

as far as your friends go, and regarding them thinking about it or not thinking about it, i think a lot of them probably took up sxe when they were younger teens, and i guarentee at least a small fraction of their decision was based on their friends/ the scene/ fitting in. kids grow older, people learn about themselves, and one of the wonderful things about life is change. maybe it is a change for the worse in your eyes, but they are your friends and you should respect the decisions they make.

dont take any of this the wrong way, its just im a bartender and i need to keep my job! hahaha that is a joke. well kinda. but i dont even drink anymore. im losing my train of thought. come see me!

HEY! I was in pittsburgh this weekend, i dont even know where you live!!! Call me wouldya!

But my retort:

Sure society labels us. Why not choose as many of those labels as you can? I'm not afraid of a label. of any labels actually. All of them equal out to be ME as a whole, and i embrace them. I dont shy away from the truth.

We have talked about this before.

If you break straight edge. you are weak. Bottom line. But it doesnt mean I hate you. You're just weak. If you cant handle that. Then you should have thought about it when you starting sucking on that beer or that cancer stick.
